A Prayer of Thanksgiving

How precious are your thoughts towards me! How vast is the sum of them (Psalm 139:17)! How can I begin to count the thoughts that you think towards me? How can I capture them in the order You think them?

No wonder the Psalmist declared, “many, O Lord my God, are your wonderful works which you have done; And your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to you in order; If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered” (Psalm 40:5).

You promised to never leave me nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). When I wake up in the morning, you are there. When I lay down my head at night, you are there. You stoop down and incline your ears towards me. You hear my laughter; you hear my cry and attend to them. Where can I go to hide from your love? Or from the thoughts you think towards me−the thoughts which you say are of good not evil, to prosper me and not to harm me, to give me a future (Jeremiah 29:11)?

The Psalmist continues, “if I rise on the wings of the dawn, or if I settle by the farthest sea, even there your hand will guide me; Your right hand will hold me fast” (Psalm 139:9-10).

Daily my heart beats in rhythm and my lungs take countless breaths. The same heart follows hard after You and the same lungs sing Your praise to the highest heavens. I cannot count the many thoughts You think towards me, but it is enough that Your presence goes with me all of my days. You have drawn me with loving kindness and loved me with an everlasting love and that is more than enough for me.
